RTD Sensor

A Pt100/Pt1000 RTD is a type of temperature sensor. It consists of an element that uses resistance to measure temperature. Often platinum is used for the element which is the reason why they are often called platinum resistance thermometers (PRTs). Other common names include RTDs (short for resistance temperature detector) and depending on the element type Pt100, Pt200, Pt500 or Pt1000.

FAQs

  • How can the functionality of an RTD be verified?

Measure the resistance across an RTD’s terminals at room temperature using a precision ohmmeter to evaluate the device.

  • What is the RTD sensor’s maximum temperature?

Depending on the kind of RTD (platinum, nickel, etc.) and its particular design, an RTD sensor’s maximum temperature usually varies from 400°C to 650°C (752°F to 1202°F).

  • What can harm an RTD?

Factors that might destroy an RTD include mechanical stress or shock, and extreme temperatures above and beyond its designated range.
